Organization Description
The Earth Observatory of Singapore is an institute for geohazard research, focusing on tectonics, volcanoes, climate change and risk in and around Southeast Asia. Situated at Nanyang Technological University, the Observatory is committed to acquiring knowledge of these natural hazards, passing this information on to at-risk communities by contributing to forecasts of such natural phenomena, and helping them adapt to these challenges.

EOS partnered with Science Centre Singapore to create ‘Earth Alive’, an interactive exhibition that allows its visitors to experience the processes that drive earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change. It presents some impacts that these Earth processes and people have on each other and highlights stories from Southeast Asia.
EOS conducts fieldwork in and around Singapore to understand and forecast the hazards that Southeast Asia faces. Pictured here are EOS scientists measuring the elevations of corals in Sentosa, Singapore, to understand past sea levels and tectonic activity, which in turn informs future projections.
